It is with deep sorrow that I learned today of the passing of Don José Luis Goñi Etchevers. We first met at a Fundación FIDE meeting in 2012. At the time I already knew of his reputation but then realized what a wonderful person he was. It was an honor and a privilege to have known him, he will be missed as well as forever remembered.
